When Glennwood Academy was created in 2004 to serve only fourth and fifth grades, the Media Center was reorganized so that it would meet the needs of students in those two grades. Consequently, the collection is a consolidation of fourth and fifth grade materials from what had been six elementary schools in Decatur. We have a collection of well over 10,000 items available to our students and faculty. The Media Center is open from 7:45 am to 4:00 pm. Our staff includes Media Specialist Steve Bartl and Media Assistant Harold Rall. You can contact us at Steven Bartl and Harold Rall.

Our Mission is to encourage and aid each student in becoming a lifelong reader. We maintain a diverse and broad collection so that our students can find books which interest them. Our Mission also includes helping our students become information literate using the "Big 6" approach to do research. This includes helping students determine the type of information they need, how to find and evaluate it, and how to organize the information they find to make it useful.

We know that there is one way to find a book we will like is by asking our freinds for a good recommendation. At Glennwood, students are recommending books to other students by writing a short summery of their book along with a final sentence with a cliff hanger. Those summaries must be great because so many of these books are being checked out.
