In Reading we have been studying how authors develop characters in a story. We read the book Stone Fox during our read aloud time and examined the traits of the main character. Students are now working towards mapping a character's traits as well as how a character may change over time. In the coming weeks, students will engage in projects to extend their knowledge of character development. Students should also be working towards making sure that they are reading for 30 minutes every night and they are making daily entries in their reading logs.
In Language Arts, we are studying adjectives and descriptive language.
MathematicsWe are currently working on mastery of our multiplication facts. This unit requires students to spend at least ten minutes per day studying their multiplication facts. The amount of work that each student puts in is tested through timed tests where students must not only be fast but accurate as well.
Science
We have followed our exciting astronomy Unit with an interesting look at an earth resource that we use every day. Water at first glance seem very intersting, but through experiments and projetcs we will see how water affets the weather and our every day lives.
Social StudiesWe are learning about explorers such as Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus, and Ferdinand Magellan. Studentshave studied where these men are from, where they explored, their motivations for exploration, what obstacles were in their way, and their major accomplishments.
